The Barcelona Beer Challenge is not only a leading beer competition in Europe, but also an active platform for connecting breweries, markets, and projects with long-term potential. Year after year, the competition proves that beyond medals, its true value lies in its ability to generate opportunities, professional relationships, and international collaborations.

A clear example of this is the connection established between Cerveza Dougall’s, awarded the Brewing Hope for a Better Future prize with the support of Mr. Malt, and Birrificio 50&50, Brewery of the Year at Birra dell’Anno, the Italian competition organised by Unionbirrai.

The Barcelona Beer Challenge facilitated the initial contact between both breweries and supported the process to ensure the collaboration could be successfully developed, identifying the alignment between the projects and creating the right context for the meeting to evolve into a concrete proposal. The connection was immediate and natural, resulting in a double collaboration, with one beer brewed at each brewery.

The outcome is two complementary interpretations of a West Coast IPA, sharing a technical approach, the dry and hop-forward character typical of the style, and a visual narrative that reflects the international alliance and collaborative spirit of the project, with cross-references between both brewers.

Initiatives like this highlight the role of the Barcelona Beer Challenge as a platform that goes beyond competition, acting as a catalyst for connections, shared projects, and new business opportunities. An environment where talent and quality are not only recognised, but transformed into relationships that open new markets and generate long-term impact.
