Now more than ever, the brewing sector has the opportunity—and the responsibility—to lead the way towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and conscious model.
Molina for Brewers and the Barcelona Beer Challenge have come together once again because they firmly believe that every choice matters: from the origin of ingredients to energy management, from how by-products are reused to how local communities are supported.
That’s why, with the aim of highlighting and rewarding those actions that are making a real difference, we’ve created a new award: BREWING HOPE AWARD – FOR A BETTER FUTURE
This award was born with a clear mission: to recognize breweries that, through their daily work, show that it’s possible to combine a passion for beer with a genuine commitment to the planet and society.
We’re not just talking about grand gestures, but a mindset of change. From small everyday actions to large-scale initiatives, every step counts. Some of the practices we want to showcase include:
Reuse of by-products like spent grain, transforming them into bread, animal feed, or agricultural fertilizer.
Use of renewable energy, such as solar panels to power brewing equipment.
Reduction of packaging or use of sustainable and returnable materials.
Capture and reuse of CO₂ generated during fermentation for new sustainable uses.
Social inclusion, hiring people at risk of exclusion or with disabilities.
Active support for the local community and participation in solidarity initiatives.
Education and awareness through events, workshops, or training programs.
We celebrate those who inspire through action: This award is not just recognition. It’s a message: sustainable change is possible, and it’s already underway. We want to share these best practices across the industry to inspire, learn, and grow together toward a more human and environmentally respectful brewing model.

In this first edition, the brewery that stood out above the rest was Dougall’s. Their commitment was exemplary across all evaluated criteria: environmental sustainability, social impact, innovation, and consistency throughout the value chain.
Dougall’s has proven that making great beer and caring for the world around it is not only compatible, but can become a true statement of principles. Their holistic approach to a responsible model was the most complete and valued by the jury. Congratulations for leading by example!
